Goal Hero Part 4

It was so hard to decide whether to accept this incredible offer. Many of my former team mates were saying I shouldn’t play in Spain, but my heart was telling me that it was probably going to be a once in a lifetime chance. ‘ Complete transfer’ – it was as if it was beckoning me over, telling me to press it.

I had done it. In a couple of weeks, I would play under the baking sun of Madrid, not the heavy rain of Derby. Hopefully, my family would choose to live near the Santiago Bernabeu : this meant I could see them much more often. Was I going to regret this offer?

” Escuche que quieres unirte a nuestro equipo,” said one of the board members, making me confused with his Spanish. Luckily, my agent Diego Sanchez had translated it into English – even though he wasn’t very good at it. ” He means, I hear you want to join our team.” After a while, my agent talked to the board member about completing the final process and my accomodation. Then I saw him. Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo. My idol. The greatest player ever. I was going to play with the best footballers in the world.

But would I play up to their standard?
