Dork Diaries – Rachel Renée Russell

April 4th, 2017 · No Comments · General News

I really enjoyed reading Dork Diaries because it had humour, tension and a lot of drama. Dork Diaries is the life of a 14-year-old girl, Nikki J. Maxwell, that finds it hard to cope with a new school, a new bully and new friends. My favourite part was when at the start Nikki talks about how she wants a phone and it is necessary and then her mum gives her a present and, of course, Nikki is expecting a phone but when she opens the present it’s a diary. My least favourite part was when Nikki went to enter her painting into the Avant- Garde art competition but her painting gets run over by her dad’s van (roachmobile).

Allotment visit

April 3rd, 2017 · No Comments · Topic

We spent the morning with Maria at Normanton Allotments, learning about what is grown, how it is grown and how to prepare the land.
This will help us as we start to prepare our school grounds and plant our own food.

You can do a little more research about growing your own vegetables here.

Katy – Jacqueline Wilson

March 28th, 2017 · No Comments · General News

This is one of my favourite books because it really grips you in with creating suspense and leaving cliff hangers at the end of chapters. It’s about a girl called Katy, who has six brothers and sisters. She gets paralysed in a wheelchair so she can’t walk.

I would recommend this to children who like books, which are very dramatic because the author describes when she fall and is really powerful. This book is based on a book ‘What Katy Did’ which was written in 1872. The author based the book ‘Katy’ on this story as a more modern version.

My Sister’s Keeper – Jodi Picoult

March 28th, 2017 · No Comments · General News

/5 – 4.5/5
Recommend – 12+ (honestly, most people will enjoy this book, so there’s no end age.)

I wrote a book review on this last year, but I had to write another because it is, perhaps, the best book I’ve ever read. If you ask the other people from Book Club, they will tell you that I’m a harsh critic. No doubts about it. The last book we read got a 0/5. It’s difficult to please me.

There are two sisters – Kate and Anna – in a less-than-perfect family. Their mother is a lawyer and their father is a fireman. Kate has leukaemia, a type of disease that effects the kidneys and bone marrow. Anna is a perfect match to Kate – and so, has to donate her bone marrow, blood and more to help keep Kate alive.

But Anna doesn’t want to. Her mother is trying to force her to donate a kidney, which can cause health risks in the future. What happens when Anna threatens to sue her parents, and gain the legal rights to decline an operation?

Animal Tales – Dick King-Smith

March 28th, 2017 · No Comments · General News

This book is about the animals’ point of view. This amazing book includes five different tales: All Because of Jackson, The Catlady, The Guard Dog, Hairy Hezekiah and Horse Pie. My favourite part of the first tale was when Australia was infested with rabbits and bunnies. In my opinion, ‘The Guard Dog’ is sad at the beginning because no-one will adopt the dog but the tables turn at the end!I would recommend this book to animal lovers.
